ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – To celebrate the contributions of our older neighbors, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is encouraging area residents to nominate a senior they know for the Illinois Department on Aging’s (IDoA) 2020 Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame Awards.

“There is so much value and wisdom to be gained from the contributions of the older adults in our lives, including our friends, family and neighbors,” said Manley. “Nominating a local senior for their work in our community is a great way to spread encouragement and help lift up others that may have been feeling down, as many of us have had to isolate from our loved ones due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

As the Illinois Alzheimer’s Association’s 2014 Legislator of the Year, Manley has been a continued advocate for senior Illinoisans. To continue her efforts to lift up seniors, Manley is encouraging area residents to nominate a senior over the age of 65 for the 2020 Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame Awards. Nominations are accepted in the following categories: community service, education, labor force and performance/graphic arts. The deadline for nominations is Monday, August 31 and can be submitted by visiting the Illinois Department on Aging’s website at www.illinois.gov/aging or by calling the Senior HelpLine at 800-252-8966.

“Many of us know a senior that has made a special impact on our lives and made our community a better place,” continued Manley. “Honoring the seniors in our community is a fantastic opportunity to spread positivity and celebrate their legacy during this incredibly difficult time.”
