SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – In response to economic complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, state Rep. Eva-Dina Delgado, D-Chicago, worked to provide immediate property tax relief for homeowners facing financial challenges.

“In order to support homeowners during the pandemic, I voted to suspend late payment penalties and tax sales on property taxes,” said Delgado. “Families are already facing a number of financial issues I will continue to aid in providing assistance as they weather the storm of these unforeseen circumstances”

Delgado worked to pass Senate Bill 685, which suspends late payment penalties and tax sales, and also places a one-year deferral on tax exemption for all senior, veteran and disabled homeowner, so homeowners do not have to reapply for their exemptions.

“Ensuring that those who are eligible for property tax exemptions can continue to receive them without going through a difficult reapplication process is critical relief people need right now,” said Delgado “There is more work to be done to make the property tax system fairer for our families, and I will continue to fight for property tax relief and reform.”
