DES PLAINES, Ill. – Striving to find concrete solutions which will provide diverse economic relief options during the COVID-19 crisis, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, recently passed legislation to administer substantial relief for residents struggling to pay their rent.
“The COVID-19 public health crisis has brought on a slew of severe economic consequences, and we had to address those obstacles head on,” Moylan said. “As elected representatives, it is our duty to defend the economic stability of residents, and with COVID-19 threatening that stability, decisive and substantial action was required of us.”
The Moylan-supported Senate Bill 264 appropriates $396 million in the 2020 budget for emergency rental assistance, emergency mortgage assistance and affordable housing grants for those impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. Specifically, $100 million will support residents who live in areas disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.
“I am proud to have passed this housing relief package, because no one should worry about losing their home through no fault of their own during this unprecedented crisis,” Moylan said. “I look forward to pursuing more proactive measures for economic relief as we continue the fight against COVID-19.”
