ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is encouraging students to get involved with the Illinois State Board of Education’s (ISBE) Student Advisory Board as the state continues to address the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Illinois schools are made great by the quality of students we have,” Yingling said. “ISBE’s Student Advisory Board presents a unique opportunity for our world-class students to offer their thoughts and insight as they experience the impact the pandemic has had on education first hand.”

Yingling is encouraging local teens to apply to serve on ISBE’s Student Advisory Council, which meets from September through March of each school year, to learn about and provide feedback on state education policy. Any Illinois high school student entering their sophomore, junior or senior year this fall may apply. For more information or to apply, visit www.isbe.net/studentvoices.

“I highly encourage any student interested in public service, teaching or making real improvements to our state to apply to serve on this Student Advisory Board,” Yingling said. “This is a way for students to get hands on experience in the world of public service while also getting a chance to develop real solutions to the problems facing our schools.”
