ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – State Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is highlighting the recent change to the property tax payment schedule allowing Lake County taxpayers to pay their property taxes over several months, and is encouraging residents to take advantage of this opportunity to create financial flexibility.

“The burden that property taxes places on working families is immense, and has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Yingling said. “I want to thank the Lake County Board for passing this ordinance that will give residents some relief during these difficult times.”

A new ordinance passed by the Lake County Board will give all Lake County taxpayers the opportunity to pay their property taxes over an extended period of time. Residents can now pay in four installments, with payments being due on June 8, August 7, September 8 and November 9. During his time in the General Assembly, Yingling has fought to lower property taxes and bring relief to his constituents. Yingling, the co-chair of the Property Tax Relief Commission, was a co-sponsor of the Property Tax Relief Fund, which aims to increase the amount of relief homeowners receive from their homeowner exemption. Yingling also regularly holds Property Tax Appeal Seminars, helping provide information to families on how they can potentially lower their taxes.

“Our property tax system in Illinois is broken and has caused an undue amount of hardship for our residents,” Yingling continued. “I am glad that taxpayers will be getting some relief during this pandemic, and look forward to working on solutions to provide permanent relief.”
