SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – State Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, is highlighting the Illinois State Board of Education’s Student Advisory Board and is encouraging local students to consider getting involved as the state continues to address the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Our schools are continuously working to ensure our children get the world-class education they deserve despite challenges caused by the COVID-19 health crisis,” said Mussman. “ISBE’s Student Advisory Board presents a unique opportunity for students to offer their valuable insight during this unprecedented time.”

Mussman is encouraging local teens to apply to serve on ISBE’s Student Advisory Council, which meets from September through March of each school year to learn about and provide feedback on state education policy. Any Illinois high school student entering their sophomore, junior or senior year this fall may apply. For more information or to apply, visit www.isbe.net/studentvoices.

“I encourage students interested in becoming teachers or pursuing a career in education to consider applying to serve on the Student Advisory Board,” continued Mussman. “This is a fantastic opportunity for students to use their critical thinking skills and collaborate with their peers from across the state to develop solutions to real issues that are facing our schools today.”

Mussman represents the 56th District, which contains portions of Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Roselle, Rolling Meadows and Palatine.
