GURNEE, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is sharing an opportunity for high school students to work with the Illinois State Board of Education by serving on its Student Advisory Council.
“Too often, education policy is designed and implemented by adults with little to no input from the young people it affects,” Mason said. “It’s great to see that the Illinois State Board of Education recognizes the importance of student feedback in the work it does and has taken the initiative to give students a seat at the table.”
The Illinois State Board of Education’s Student Advisory Council meets from September through March of each school year to learn about and provide feedback on state education policy. Any Illinois high school student entering their sophomore, junior or senior year this fall may apply. For more information or to apply, please visit www.isbe.net/studentvoices.
“The Illinois State Board of Education’s Student Advisory Council gives students valuable firsthand experience working with state leaders in K-12 education, as well as the chance to collaborate with their peers from across the state,” said Mason. “This council is an incredible opportunity, and I strongly encourage any student with an interest in education or public policy to apply.”
