BELLEVILLE, Ill. – To develop plans to help the state continue its fight against the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, state Rep. Jay Hoffman, D-Swansea, was recently appointed to lead several legislative working groups for the Illinois House of Representatives.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has created many challenges for families across the state,” said Hoffman. “We are in an emergency situation, so the legislative working groups were created to facilitate active conversations among bipartisan groups of lawmakers to develop proactive solutions and address the real issues facing Illinoisans during this time.”

Hoffman was appointed as Co-Chair of the House Capital Infrastructure and Funding, Economic Recovery and Labor and Unemployment Insurance legislative working groups. The working groups are intended to function similarly to committees, but they do not pass legislation, and instead are designed for lawmakers to identify solutions to help the state address the impact of COVID-19.

“My top priorities to build a stronger Illinois during the COVID-19 crisis are to help our small businesses that have been hit the hardest, address skyrocketing unemployment and rebuild and grow our struggling economy,” continued Hoffman. “The obstacles facing our state will be difficult to overcome, but I will continue working with legislators on both sides of the aisle to develop plans to put our state back on the right track.”
