GURNEE, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is joining her colleagues in the Conference of Women Legislators of the Illinois General Assembly in announcing academic scholarships for women who are at least 25 years old.

“Too often, the cost of tuition prevents people from attending college or leaves them straddled with debt for years after graduation,” said Mason. “Financial assistance in the form of scholarships can make a big difference in the overall cost of going to school, but it can be difficult for older students to secure that assistance when they’re forced to compete with large pools of younger applicants.”

The Conference of Women Legislators of the Illinois General Assembly is a bipartisan non-profit organization of Illinois state senators and representatives. The conference is offering 10 scholarships of $2,500 each to women who are 25 or older and enrolled at an accredited Illinois college or university. Applications are due on or before Friday, May 1. To apply, please visit www.cowl.formstack.com/forms/20202021_cowl_scholarship_application.

“It’s important we continue to create opportunities for non-traditional students, like older women, to succeed in college without being overburdened by the cost of tuition,” Mason said. “If you need assistance applying for this scholarship or other financial aid, please reach out to my office. I and my team are here to help.”
