CHICAGO – In response to the economic downspin caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, state Rep. Curtis J. Tarver II, D-Chicago, has been appointed to state government working groups focused on resolving the economic complications faced by Illinoisans statewide.

“This is the time to come together and create real solutions to give the people of Illinois certainty and assurance that their state will not let them become statistical casualties of these uncertain economic times,” said Tarver. “Many people in my district have reached out about policies to ensure individuals have access to affordable housing while still being able to pay bills and put food on the table to support their families. Therefore, I requested working groups that would allow me to roll my sleeves up alongside my colleagues and find practical, commonsense solutions that have the legislative support to be enacted and are effective for residents statewide.”

Tarver has been appointed to the Economic Recovery, Government Administration and Housing and Homelessness Prevention House working groups, which will continue working on issues facing the state while legislators cannot meet in person. The working groups will meet regularly to discuss potential legislative solutions to major problems arising as a result of the crisis.

“The pandemic along with the subsequent economic adversities has negatively impacted a wide range of Illinoisans. It is a priority of mine to ensure that the conversations of economic recovery are inclusive of minority owned businesses,” said Tarver. “It is imperative that the aid for businesses and families is appropriately applied and does not unfairly cater toward one group over the other or certain communities do not get the short end of the stick.”
