ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – To help seniors that are facing food insecurity due to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is highlighting the Illinois Department on Aging’s (IDoA) recent move to expand meal assistance for seniors across the state by $7 million.

“Many older residents live on a fixed income. As we face so much uncertainty about the future, they may have to stretch their budgets even further to ensure they have the medication and supplies they need throughout this health crisis,” said Manley. “Expanding home delivery meal assistance through programs like Meals on Wheels will help ensure that Illinois seniors can enjoy hot meals from the comfort and safety of their own homes during this time.”

Manley is highlighting IDoA’s recent move to distribute $7 million across the state to help meet the growing demand for delivery meal assistance for seniors impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. If you or a senior you know are in need of any kind of assistance, Manley encourages you to visit www.illinois.gov/aging or contact IDoA’s senior helpline at 1-800-252-8966, or 888-206-1327 for the hearing impaired.

“I am glad to see IDoA continuing their commitment to our seniors, ensuring that our most vulnerable residents still eat and can enjoy hot meals in their own home without fear of exposure to COVID-19,” continued Manley. “It is critical that we each continue doing our part to help bend the curve, and I encourage residents to use this time to check in on their older neighbors, friends and family members to make sure they stay well.”
