DECATUR, Ill. – State Rep. Sue Scherer, D-Decatur, is encouraging residents to take advantage of the state’s new ‘Help is Here’ hotline and website, which offers assistance on a variety of issues including housing and food security, senior resources and child care information.

“Staying at home and practicing social distancing can be difficult but these are absolutely necessary steps to stopping the spread of this disease and saving lives,” said Scherer. “While these practices can create obstacles in the lives of many seniors, essential workers and many other citizens throughout the state, resources are available to help us get through this, while protecting ourselves and those around us.”

Scherer is urging residents in need to take advantage of a new ‘Help is Here’ hotline and website from the Illinois Department of Public Health. By calling 1-833-234-6343 or visit Dhs.illinois.gov/helpishere, residents can access a variety of services, including:

  • Home services programs
  • Care for older adults
  • Youth and child care services
  • Domestic violence prevention resources
  • Food security programs
  • Housing security
  • Medical help

“Everyone should stay as safe as possible. If you are in need of assistance, please, do not hesitate to use the Help is Here resource the state is providing,” said Scherer. “These resources are in place to slow down the spread of COVID-19 while still allowing Illinoisans to get the help they deserve.”
