BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. – In recognition of April being National Volunteer Month, state Rep. Diane Pappas, D-Itasca, is promoting volunteer opportunities through the official website of
Serve Illinois during the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

“Due to the ongoing pandemic, there are a lot of vulnerable community members in dire need of assistance, including senior citizens and people struggling with homelessness,” said Pappas. “That is why I am encouraging local residents who are healthy and able to participate in volunteer opportunities to help those residents who need it the most.”

Pappas is promoting the various volunteer opportunities provided through Serve Illinois. The state is currently seeking volunteers to help with delivery services, food banks, senior citizen support, mental health resources, medical supply donations and much more. Only healthy residents may participate, and social distancing protections are in place to ensure the safety of all volunteers. Residents interested in volunteering can find opportunities near them by entering their information at www.Serve.Illinois.gov.

“If there is a silver lining in this health crisis, it can be found in the compassion, solidarity and community service of our fellow Illinoisans,” Pappas said. “I believe in our community, and I know we will answer the call by being united and looking out for one another.”

Residents can stay informed on developments with the COVID-19 pandemic by reviewing information provided on the State of Illinois’ website at www.coronavirus.illinois.gov. Pappas encourages residents who need help navigating services to contact her district office at 224-520-8838 or RepDPappas@gmail.com.
