LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. – To ensure that local communities receive the appropriate funding and resources from the federal government, state Rep. Mary Edly-Allen, D-Libertyville, is urging all local residents to complete their 2020 census form online, by mail or by phone.

“Completing the census is an easy and safe way to contribute to our community during the COVID-19 crisis. Much of the assistance we receive from the federal government is based on census data, which is why it is so important to ensure that every single person in our community is counted,” said Edly-Allen. “This data will affect our lives and the resources we receive for the next decade.”

Data collected from the census is used to determine the distribution and flow of federal resources to a community, including services for infrastructure, healthcare, school lunches, child abuse prevention, public transportation and public safety. Census data is also used to determine the number of Illinois Congressional districts, which would have far-reaching effects on Illinois’ representation in Congress.

Residents may complete the census online, by phone or by mail. Information on how to complete the census by each of these methods may be found at https://2020census.gov/en/ways-to-respond.html.

“The census is fast and easy to complete, and the results will have a long-lasting impact on our community and our state,” Edly-Allen added. “I strongly urge all local residents to complete their census form as soon as possible. While census workers will begin door to door canvassing and working with community groups to ensure everyone is counted, getting this taken care of now will help reduce person-to-person contact and keep members of our community as well as the census workers safe as they complete this very important process.”
