VILLA PARK, Ill. – State Rep. Deb Conroy, D-Villa Park, is encouraging local residents to submit their electric, gas or landline phone bills for a free, personalized cost-savings analysis provided by the non-profit consumer watchdog group Citizens Utility Board (CUB).

“Now more than ever, the ability to save a few dollars on monthly bills can make a significant difference in the lives of working families,” said Conroy. “The Citizens Utility Board frequently hosts free clinics for residents to bring their utility bills and receive a free one-on-one analysis in person. Given the current circumstances, CUB is moving their in-person seminars online to protect public health while still providing this vital service.”

Residents may email a copy of their most recent electric, natural gas, or landline phone bill to Aimee Gendusa-English at aenglish@citizensutilityboard.org with “ATTN: Virtual Utility Bill Clinic” in the subject line. Personal information may be redacted, but consumers should make sure to include the account holder’s name and a home address or e-mail address where CUB should send the completed analysis. A CUB specialist will perform an analysis to determine if the consumer is signed up with an alternative supplier or paying for unnecessary products and services. CUB will also provide advice on usage compared to other consumers and notify the consumer if they are eligible for money-saving programs including financial assistance and free energy-efficiency products and services.

“We should take advantage of the ways that organizations are trying to help us as we all navigate through this new reality under the COVID-19 pandemic,” continued Conroy. “Thanks to this modified service, you don’t have to leave your house to find out if you can save money on your basic household bills. While we stay inside and practice safe social distancing, a short e-mail can potentially help local families and seniors save money each month. I urge everyone to take the necessary health precautions, stay safe, and reach out to me anytime at 630-415-3520 if I can be of any assistance as we navigate these uncertain times.”
