RED BUD, Ill. – State Rep. Nathan Reitz, D-Steeleville, is promoting Illinois’ new “Care Comes First” action plan from the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic by expanding affordable health care access for all Illinoisans.

“Now more than ever, every Illinoisan must have equal access to comprehensive health care and coverage. We can extinguish the COVID-19 disease in Illinois, but only if all patients get care from our medical system, and we all follow the recommended procedures by our state and federal government,” Reitz said. “By expanding access to health coverage for all our citizens and those uninsured is the right step to take during this pandemic to help protect citizens’ health and of the public.”

HFS has generated the “Care Comes First” action plan to help fight COVID-19. Expansions in service include greater coverage for all people seeking treatment for the pandemic, cutting of time-consuming verification processes and co-payments and streamlining assistance for residents seeking help with completing applications for federal healthcare coverage. “The state is taking steps to reduce feeds and compressing unnecessary wait times for those seeking health care because no one facing coronavirus symptoms should be worrying about costs to receive care and help protect those around them,” Reitz said. “I want families everywhere to know that assistance is available if they are concerned about paying for medical costs.”
