BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. – State Rep. Diane Pappas, D-Itasca, is promoting the local blood bank, Versiti Blood Center of Illinois, to help address the severe shortage in blood donations during the COVID-19 emergency.

“As a result of the ongoing pandemic and cancellation of most public blood drives, we are seeing a severe shortage in blood donations,” said Pappas. “While I understand potential donors may have concerns, I want to remind residents that according to current expert medical guidelines, blood donations are perfectly safe. That is why I am urging all healthy, eligible residents to donate blood if they can.”

Residents who are interested in giving blood can contact the Versiti Blood Center of Illinois at 800-786-4483 or visit their official website, https://www.versiti.org/about-us. Pappas encourages residents who need help navigating services to contact her district office at 224-520-8838 or

“Now more than ever, it is essential that patients have access to life-saving blood,” said Pappas. “In order to help patients in need and support our medical workers on the front lines of this outbreak, we must all work together to ensure our blood banks are fully supplied.”
