SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Nathan Reitz, D-Steeleville, recently supported legislation authorizing the Illinois Secretary of State to award new specially designated license plates to veterans who have earned the Defense Superior Service Medal.

“Veterans who have been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal are those that have gone above and beyond their call of service and served our country with the utmost bravery,” said Reitz. “Designating special license plates to veterans that have received this tremendous honor is just one more way that our state can thank these heroes for their service.”

Reitz supported House Bill 4246, which authorizes the Illinois Secretary of State to designate the new “Defense Superior Service Medal” vehicle license plate to veterans who were awarded the official medal for their military service. The legislation also waives the registration and renewal fees of the newly created license plates for veterans who have earned the medal, which is awarded to soldiers who perform “superior meritorious service in a position of significant responsibility.”

“There is no way that we can say thank you enough to the brave men and women who have served our country in uniform,” continued Reitz. “I will continue fighting for and supporting our service members and veterans across the state of Illinois.”
