WAUKEGAN, Ill. – In recognition of National Read Across America Day, state Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, joined the Women’s Leadership Council of United Way Lake County to read with bilingual preschool students at North Elementary School in Waukegan on Monday, March 2.

“Being exposed to literacy at an early age is so important to children’s development and success,” said Mason. “I was happy to be part of Women United’s Read Across America Day celebration to help get students engaged in reading and show them how much fun it can be.”

As part of a countywide volunteer event hosted by the United Way of Lake County, Mason read “Are You My Mother?” to preschoolers at North Elementary School on Monday. Read Across America Day is observed annually on March 2 in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday to motivate children to read more and to share their reading experiences.
