LOMBARD – To raise awareness of environmental issues facing Illinois and provide training for would-be advocates, state Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, will host an environmental issues forum with the Illinois Environmental Council (IEC) from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12 at the Glen Ellyn Park District, at 185 S. Spring St. in Glen Ellyn.

“The people in our communities are strongly committed to protecting our environment and conserving our natural resources,” Costa Howard said “With this seminar, we will inform participants about the environmental legislation currently under consideration by the General Assembly and offer guidance on how they can become more forceful advocates for our environment.”

Costa Howard’s event, which is free and open to the public, will feature legislative updates from IEC experts.

Costa Howard, who won a 100% rating on the IEC’s 2019 Environmental Scorecard, is a sponsor of the Clean Energy Jobs Act, a comprehensive clean energy bill that would promote renewable energy, provide savings for consumers, and increase the number of clean energy-related jobs in Illinois. She also recently introduced legislation, supported by DuPage County’s SCARCE, that would ban the sale of garden hoses containing lead.

“The Illinois Environmental Council is one of the state’s most effective advocacy organizations,” Costa Howard added. “I am proud to join them in reaching out to people who want to learn more about what we’re doing in Illinois to protect our environment and how they help to advocate for wise policies that will promote sustainability and make Illinois a cleaner, healthier place for all of us.”
