DES PLAINES, Ill. – State Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, and state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, will co-host a women’s focused career building workshop with Women Employed on Monday, March 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Elk Grove Village Public Library, located at 1001 Wellington Ave. in Elk Grove Village.

“While much progress has been made in the fight for gender equality, women still make only about 79 cents for every dollar earned by their male counterpart, and that amount is even lower for women of color,” Mussman said. “In addition to our state’s new equal pay measure passed last spring, we must continue working to close the wage gap. This workshop can help equip women with the strategies needed to negotiate the salary they deserve.”

The March 23 seminar will be led by Women Employed Senior Director of External Affairs Mary Kay Devine. Devine will discuss the specifics of Illinois’ new no salary history law, the impact of the gender wage gap, techniques for successful salary negotiations and other resources that Women Employed can provide to women in the workforce.

“Unfortunately, women continue to be forced to fight for equality in the workplace to this day,” Moylan said. “We have to continue to push forward policies that will ensure that all workers receive the fair pay they deserve.”
