SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Unwavering in his support of the men and women who have served in our military, state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plains, recently introduced legislation aiming to provide financial support for veterans acquiring service dogs.

“Service animals help many people deal with a wide range of issues, and they can be of great benefit to our brave military men and women,” Moylan said. “We should use all the resources at our disposal to take care of the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of our veterans.”

The Moylan-introduced House Bill 5609 would appropriate $200,000 to the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Half of these funds would go to Willing Partners Canine Education Inc. and the other half to K9s for Veterans NFP. The money will go toward all of the costs associated with the training of service dogs for veterans.

“We must help our veterans cope with any trauma they experienced, with their transition back into civilian life and with any other issues they may have,” Moylan said. “We, as legislators and Americans, have an obligation to look after our veterans, and this legislation will help uphold that obligation.”
