CHICAGO – State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, recently partnered with the nonprofit organization Women Employed to host a workshop to help local women understand the state’s new equal pay laws and strategies for successful career advancement.

“It is critical to the advancement of equality that we do whatever we can to make sure that our local residents are remain informed of their rights and resources,” said Slaughter. “I am grateful for organizations like Women Employed who empower women to navigate their careers and negotiate the salary they deserve.”

Slaughter was joined by Women Employed CEO Cherita Evans, who delivered an invigorating presentation on Illinois’ new equal pay laws and the wage gap. Local women also shared their experiences with gender bias in their careers along with the strategies that they used to overcome it.
