SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – After Gov. J.B. Pritzker delivered his budget address on Wednesday, state Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, issued the following statement:

“I am encouraged to hear Gov. Pritzker say that he is open and willing to compromise as we move forward with budget negotiations. There are some tough decisions to be made to get Illinois on more stable financial footing, and everyone deserves a seat at the bargaining table.

“It is vital as we look to address the serious issues facing our state that we focus on civility and compromise, and come together regardless of partisan affiliation to produce a budget that works for everyday people who are struggling to make ends meet. We need to continue to ensure the necessary funding for lifesaving services like our women’s shelters, senior and veterans’ care programs and our local schools.

“Our plans for the state moving forward must also address the burdensome property taxes that weigh on the minds and budgets of middle-class homeowners. Through meaningful property tax relief, we can build an Illinois that truly works for all of us.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to produce a bipartisan, balanced budget for this upcoming fiscal year.”
