SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Deb Conroy, D-Villa Park, issued the following statement in response to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s budget address:

“Families and seniors in our community have suffered due to years of instability and severe cuts to critical services. On top of that, many struggle to thrive in an economy that continues to only reward those at the very top while the middle class has not seen a real raise in decades. Access to healthcare is continuously out of reach, leading those with mental health challenges down a path of addiction. These are the issues that are at stake every time we craft a budget and it is time we begin to invest in those who have been left behind for far too long.

“Our community deserves a healthcare system that is comprehensive, accessible and preventative rather than reactionary and out of reach. As the Chair of the House Mental Health Committee, I will work with my colleagues to bring much needed health services to DuPage County and advocate for continued investment in addiction treatment and mental health services to address the mental health crisis many of our families are struggling with.

“I am committed to working with the Governor and in a bipartisan fashion to develop a budget that prioritizes paying off our debts and smart investments that empower the middle class and seniors. It is time we implement effective solutions to improve the financial health of our state and community for decades to come.”
