SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Jonathan Carroll, D-Northbrook, issued the following statement after Gov. Pritzker delivered his second annual budget address:
“Illinois enters the second year of the 101st General Assembly with a number of notable achievements. We passed reforms that are creating jobs, expanding economic development, raising wages for working families and reining in the cost of lifesaving drugs. However, we still face existing budgetary challenges following years of financial mismanagement.
“We have an opportunity to build upon the progress we have made by continuing in the spirit of good faith and negotiating a budget which lowers the tax burden and reins in spending.
“With thousands of units of local government across the state, the time for us to consider sensible consolidation is now. I share the governor’s desire to pursue reasonable government consolidation efforts to reduce the tax burden on working families across the state.
“I look forward to working with Gov. Pritzker and my colleagues as we continue identifying solutions to our state’s most pressing financial challenges.”
