SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Mary Edly-Allen, D-Libertyville, issued the following statement following Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s Budget Address:
“The governor’s address today reminds us that we have many tough decisions ahead. I will continue to work across the aisle to prevent unaffordable tax increases on the middle class while protecting funding for our local schools and vital community services.
“I’m committed to ensuring our area receives funding to support our local schools, encourage economic development, and protect critical services that serve our children, elderly and vulnerable populations.
“Any proposed budget must include meaningful payments towards our pension debt and the backlog of nearly $7 billion in overdue bills. It is our responsibility to ensure that future generations aren’t saddled with the debt created by decades of mismanagement by Springfield politicians. As always, I look forward to continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass a bi-partisan, balanced budget that helps lift up all working families and build a stronger Illinois.”
