CHICAGO – State Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, released the following statement following Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s budget address:
“As lawmakers look toward crafting a balanced budget for this upcoming year, we must all be prepared to make sacrifices and tough decisions to ensure that we keep Illinois on track to pay off the enormous backlog of old bills that have accumulated through the years. Sound financial footing can only be gained through bipartisan reforms and I am looking forward to working with all of my colleagues to deliver this budget.
“However, regardless of what decisions need to be made, it is vital that we fund our public school systems adequately to ensure that our state’s children can receive the high-quality education that they deserve. Last year we managed to pass a balanced budget that provided $350 million in additional funding for public schools—we need to emphasize the importance of education once again.
“I will continue working to build a stronger Illinois that invests in our families and our future. I am confident that through compromise and a commitment to this state, we can and will continue to fight for all of our citizens.”
