CHICAGO – To help connect families in need with bikes for their children, state Rep. Fran Hurley, D-Chicago, is hosting a bike donation drive throughout the month of February.

“When my kids were growing up we enjoyed riding bikes as a family. Bike riding is a fun and easy way to get children outdoors and help establish healthy habits,” said Hurley. “Riding a bike is also a true pastime many adults think fondly back upon from their childhood, but buying a bike can be a huge expense for a family.”

Hurley is partnering with Park Schwinn Cyclery to host a bike donation drive throughout the month of February. Donations of new and used bikes will be accepted, and can be brought to Hurley’s district office, located at 10400 S. Western Ave. in Chicago, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hurley’s district office will be closed on Feb. 12 and Feb. 17 in observance of state holidays. The bikes will be fixed and refurbished by John DeBold of Park Schwinn Cyclery and then given to children without bikes. If you received a new bike for Christmas, have outgrown your bike, or if your bike is taking up too much space, Hurley encourages you to donate. Bikes can also be dropped off at Park Schwinn, located at 3333 95th St., Evergreen Park, IL 60805.

“Community bike donations will give children without their own bikes a chance to enjoy an activity that many of us take for granted,” continued Hurley. “I encourage residents with a bike they no longer use or need to consider donating it to give a child in need the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors on a bicycle.”
