SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Kelly Burke, D-Oak Lawn, issued the following statement after Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s State of the State address this week:

“As we begin a new legislative session, we must continue working to build a stronger state that works for the middle class. We made important progress last year to get Illinois on the right track, including a bipartisan, balanced budget that pays down old debts while investing in our schools, breast and cervical cancer screenings, senior services and other critical resources.

“We worked together to implement an infrastructure plan that creates new jobs and fixes our crumbling roads and bridges, and we took steps toward real property tax relief by creating the Property Tax Relief Fund to provide annual rebates to homeowners.

“There is more work to be done to keep Illinois moving forward, and I am committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to continue passing balanced budgets, fighting for tax relief and ensuring funding for health care and education. When we work together across party lines, we can build a stronger Illinois that works for the middle class.”
