OTTAWA – State Rep. Lance Yednock, D-Ottawa, issued the following statement after Governor JB Pritzker’s State of the State address today:

“Today’s address is an opportunity for legislators to think about what steps we must continue to take in order to build up middle-class families and create a stronger state together. Legislators owe it to residents to continue to fight for the issues that matter, including more affordable health care, better wages, and property tax relief.

“Last spring, we were able to take a number of steps to put Illinois back on the right track, including a fairer tax system that will work for middle-class families, investing in new job training programs that help students learn technical skills, and passing a bipartisan, balanced budget that pays down old debt and puts more money into our local schools.

“We still have a lot more work to do, and Republicans and Democrats must continue to work together to continue the progress that we achieved last year. We must continue to pass bipartisan, balanced budgets that protect our most vulnerable citizens while paying down old debt. We also must continue to provide real tax relief for homeowners, and expand exemptions for seniors, the middle-class and our veterans. Finally, we have to crack down on corruption and build back the public’s confidence in government by regulating the behavior of legislators and lobbyists and closing loopholes in the system that are exploited.

“I look forward to continuing to work on these issues with my colleagues in a bipartisan way, and I’ll continue to stand up for our families in the Illinois Valley to build a stronger middle-class and Illinois.”
