SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Lindsey LaPointe, D-Chicago, released the following statement in response to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s State of the State Address on Wednesday.

“Significant progress has been made in the past year to move our state forward, but there is still much more work to be done to put Illinois on a better path forward. As we start planning for the year ahead, I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to provide property tax relief to middle-class families, create more high-wage jobs in our community and to crackdown on corruption and improve ethical standards in state government.

“To put our state on a strong financial path, the most important thing we can do is to pass a balanced budget to provide funding for our public schools, social services and programs to strengthen our local economy. Improving out state’s economic health requires a significant investment in job training and education to prepare the next generation of skilled workers in Illinois. Prioritizing a stable economy will serve as a benefit to our state and all those who live here.

“Today, Governor Pritzker discussed his priorities and expectation for the upcoming year while highlighting the challenges that we face ahead. I am committed to working with fellow lawmakers and stakeholders to tackle our state’s biggest issues while representing the needs and commitments of the residents that I serve.”
