SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. LaToya Greenwood, D-East St. Louis, issued the following statement after Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s State of the State address Wednesday:

“As we begin a new legislative session in Springfield, I’m excited by the opportunity before us to build a stronger Illinois for all residents.

“We must once again prioritize the passage of a balanced, bipartisan budget that pays down old bills, invests in our schools and ensures that communities have access to critically-needed breast cancer screenings, senior services and domestic violence shelters. It is also critical that we take real action to restore confidence in government. This starts by reviewing and proactively updating rules that impact lobbyists and lawmakers before the next bad actor takes advantage of our institutions for personal gain.

“Last year we made important strides to invest more in job training designed to prepare workers for high-wage jobs, implemented an infrastructure plan to rebuild our roads and bridges, and took steps to make health care and prescription drugs more affordable.

“These items became a reality through efforts from both Republicans and Democrats to work together. A cooperative spirit will once again be needed as we work to tackle property taxes, government ethics and other challenges. I am thankful for the continued privilege and opportunity to serve the residents of the community I call home, and look forward to working to bring real results for them.”
