SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. John Connor, D-Lockport, issued the following statement after Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s State of the State address Wednesday:

“As a new legislative session begins, it is an opportunity as a representative to reaffirm my commitment to move the state forward toward a stronger and brighter future.

“Last year we saw what can happen when we work together across party lines to address the concerns facing families throughout Illinois. We implemented a major infrastructure plan that invests in our roads and bridges, created new job training programs to prepare workers for high-wage jobs, and passed a balanced spending plan that pays down old bills and provides new dollars for our schools.

“More work remains to address high property taxes, the cost of health care, and our backlog of bills. We have to again pass a balanced budget that provides necessary funding for our schools, senior care and other lifesaving services like breast cancer screenings and domestic violence shelters. We’ve seen the damage done by those in government who seek advantage not on behalf of their constituents, but for themselves personally, and so we need to reform our disclosure rules accordingly.

“There is no question our state faces a number of pressing challenges, but I have faith that we are moving forward to a brighter future. I look forward to working with both Republicans and Democrats to ensure we continue to prioritize the community I love and have the privilege of serving.”
