HILLSIDE, Ill. – State Rep. Emanuel “Chris” Welch, D-Hillside, announced today that the Village of Maywood will receive a $333,000 state grant to fund the Fred Hampton Pool Renovation Project.
“The Fred Hampton Family Aquatic Center has been a space for our community to come together to celebrate summer and enjoy the outdoors,” Welch said. “Due to severe winter conditions over the last few years that caused extensive damage to the pool, the center is in desperate need for repair. This grant will help provide the funding needed to restore the pool and create a more vibrant community center for Maywood residents.”
Welch announced that the $333,000 state grant for the Fred Hampton Pool Renovation Project is funded through the state’s Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program, administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The program helps communities acquire open space and develop and improve recreational facilities throughout Illinois.
“I applaud Gov. Pritzker and the Department of Natural Resources for working to release the funds for this necessary project,” Welch said. “I look forward to seeing the improvement made so that children, families and seniors can enjoy the benefits of the summer swim season.”
