WEST CHICAGO, Ill. – To help immigrants and their families understand their rights under current law, state Rep. Karina Villa, D-West Chicago, is hosting a series of free Know Your Rights seminars with immigration advocates on a variety of topics during the month of January.

“The continued hateful rhetoric and misinformation coming out of Washington has brought feelings of insecurity to immigrant families across the country and right here in our own communities,” said Villa. “As the daughter of immigrant parents, I think it is critical now more than ever to help families understand their rights as immigrants and the limits of what the government can do. I encourage residents to stop by one of my upcoming events to learn critical, helpful information.”

To learn more about comprehensive legal immigration services and immigrant rights in the United States, Villa is inviting residents to join her for her upcoming Know Your Rights seminar series. All events will be conducted in Spanish and will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, located at 155 N. Prince Crossing in West Chicago:

• Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. – Public Charge
• Friday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. – Immigrants and Cannabis
• Friday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. – Know Your Rights

“As a proud Latina, I will continue standing up against fearmongering because nobody should live with anxiety of being harassed or treated unethically by their government,” continued Villa. “I encourage residents to join me for my upcoming Immigrant Rights seminar series, as I continue working for policies that support our families.”
