CHICAGO – Advocating for equitable housing, state Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, co-lead a Fair Housing Town Hall with state Rep. Curtis Tarver, D-Chicago. Facilitated through the Illinois Human Rights Commission and the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the town hall updated residents on Illinois’ Fair Housing protections.
“No one deserves to be price-gouged, exploited or subjected to unjust treatment when looking for housing,” said Buckner. “Everyone deserves to have a place they can call home that is truly affordable. To build a stronger Illinois, we need to ensure hard-working folks in our community are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve, especially within their own homes.”
Buckner and Tarver co-hosted the Fair Housing Town Hall to hear directly from residents on housing issues that impact them. The event addressed a variety of topics and issues regarding fair housing. Guests who attended were given information on Illinois’ Fair Housing protections, the process of a fair housing investigation, and recent policy changes to the Illinois Human Rights Act.
