LOMBARD – State Rep. Terra Costa Howard, D-Glen Ellyn, recently toured Giant Steps, Lisle’s therapeutic day school serving children and adults with autism spectrum disorders.
“From its earliest days, the Giant Steps program has been recognized as an example of how best to care for children with autism spectrum disorders and help them reach their full potential,” said Costa Howard. “They are a great asset for our communities.
Giant Steps was established in 1996 to provide education, therapeutic and recreational programs for children with autism spectrum disorders. Through its Autism Training Center, Giant Steps also offers services for individuals and families touched by autism, as well as schools, community organizations, early intervention centers, respite providers, and first responders. In 2012, Giant Steps expanded to include Canopy Adult Day Program.
“Giant Steps offers invaluable services to children and families in DuPage County,” Costa Howard said. “Getting an autism spectrum diagnosis can be frightening and lonely for families, and people may not know where to turn. We are so fortunate that Giant Steps and its dedicated, well-trained staff are here to offer expert guidance and loving care to children and provide support to families and community members.”
