AURORA, Ill. – As the deadline to enroll in health insurance plans through the Affordable Care Act quickly approaches, state Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, is reminding residents to apply by Sunday, Dec. 15.

“It is crucial that every person in Illinois receives affordable and reliable health care coverage,” said Hernandez. “Health care coverage is available for every resident in the state through Get Covered Illinois and the health insurance marketplace, and I want to make sure that folks are aware of their options and the types of financial assistance offered.”

Get Covered Illinois is the official health insurance marketplace for Illinois consumers under the Affordable Care Act. Residents who qualify must enroll by Sunday, Dec. 15 to be covered in 2020, and may face a penalty fee if they go uncovered. Financial assistance is available based on yearly income. Residents can also get free assistance from a certified application counselor to help find the best option for them on the Get Covered Illinois website at getcovered.illinois.gov.

“Plans and prices may change each year, so it is extremely important that every resident checks to find the best option for their family while making sure to enroll by the deadline,” said Hernandez. “I encourage residents who need assistance navigating the Illinois marketplace and enrolling in a plan to reach out to my office or visit the Get Covered Illinois website.”
