RIVERWOODS, Ill. – State Rep. Dan Didech, D-Buffalo Grove, worked with Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs to retrieve nearly $19,000 in unclaimed property owed to Orphans of the Storm animal shelter.
“I am thrilled to partner with Treasurer Frerichs to secure funds for this great organization that does so much to care for animals in our community,” Didech said. “The Treasurer’s I-Cash program is an invaluable service for the people of Illinois — local residents should not hesitate to contact my office for assistance searching for unclaimed property that may be available to them through I-Cash.”
With the help of the Illinois treasurer, Didech helped retrieve a $14,000 donation left to the Orphans of the Storm, as well as some other assets that brought the total to nearly $19,000 in unclaimed property. In Illinois, the state treasurer is tasked with safeguarding unclaimed property, such as unpaid life insurance benefits, forgotten bank accounts and unused rebate cards. Illinois holds more than $3 billion in unclaimed property. Individuals can search the state treasurer’s database for their name or the name of their business or non-profit at www.illinoistreasurer.gov/ICASH.
