ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – With the holiday season in full force, state Rep. Mark Walker, D-Arlington Heights, is encouraging residents to shop local and support small businesses in our area.

“When our small businesses succeed, we all succeed,” Walker said. “Local businesses add to the culture of what makes our communities great, in addition to creating and supporting good quality jobs. While it may seem easier to order online during the busy holiday season, it’s important to remember that taking a little bit of time to shop local is a rewarding investment in our community.”

As one of the few legislators in Springfield with a business background, Walker has worked diligently to improve the business climate in Illinois and help small businesses grow. In addition to repealing the franchise tax on over 300,000 small businesses, Walker passed legislation expanding career and technical education and apprenticeship programs.

“Building a stronger Illinois means supporting our local businesses, growing the middle class and stimulating our local economies,” Walker said. “I’m committed to energizing our state to make it more prosperous for all. Shopping local is a great start to that goal, and I encourage residents to support our businesses this holiday season and all year long.”
