GURNEE, Ill. – State Rep. Joyce Mason, D-Gurnee, is partnering with P.A.D.S. Lake County to collect cold-weather clothing to donate to residents in need. Mason’s Winter Clothing Drive began on Nov. 15 and will continue through Dec. 7.
“There’s a misconception that the only way homelessness occurs is when a person lives on the street without shelter. In reality, homelessness can and does exist in other, less apparent forms,” Mason said. “In our community, homelessness is often experienced by residents who have lost housing and are living in their cars or on campgrounds. Understanding the full breadth of this issue is critical to ensuring homeless residents receive appropriate assistance and housing resources.”
P.A.D.S. Lake County is a nonprofit initiative that provides short and long term assistance to residents experiencing homelessness. Mason’s Winter Clothing Drive is seeking donations of new or gently used hats, scarves, gloves, thermal layers, sweatshirts and coats. Donations can be brought to Mason’s district office at 36100 Brookside Drive Suite LL 60 in Gurnee. Alternative drop-off locations can be coordinated by contacting Mason’s constituent service office at 847-485-9986 or info@repjoycemason.com
“Over the past year, I’ve passed several measures that will prevent homelessness before it even occurs; however, I know the causes of homelessness are always evolving and so are its effects,” Mason said. “I am committed to continuing to advance a legislative agenda that truly addresses the issue of homelessness, and I want to thank P.A.D.S. Lake County for all the vitally important work it does to assist the homeless in our community every day.”
