RED BUD, Ill. – State Rep. Nathan Reitz, D-Steeleville, recently supported new measures at the Capitol to help ensure that both service members and their families receive the support and services they deserve both during and after their service in the armed forces.

“Military families perform a crucial service for our county when they support their loved ones who are in the armed forces. Whether a family member is active duty, or a veteran who has returned home, the families of military members make many sacrifices as well,” Reitz said. “The physical, emotional and financial support military families provide is key, and I don’t believe they should have to give that support without our help.”

Reitz has sponsored and supported several pieces of legislation to benefit veterans and their families. He backed Senate Bill 1468, which allows families to take advantage of the Veterans and Military Personnel Discount Program to receive discounts on a wide-range of important products. Reitz also pushed for House Bill 120, which creates the Veterans Service-Related Ailments Task Force to generate new solutions to help with the physical problems veterans face as a result of their service time.

“No Illinoisan, and definitely not a military member or someone in their family, should have to face challenges when seeing a physician or seeking medical care relating to a service-related injury or ailment,” Reitz said. “As a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs committee, I will continue to work in Springfield to see that veterans have access to the health care and benefits they deserve, along with the support that their families need while their loved ones serve our great country.”
