CHICAGO – State Rep. Kam Buckner, D-Chicago, is partnering with state Rep. Curtis Tarver, the Office of Treasurer Michael W. Frerichs and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Division of Banking to present a Financial Literacy Town Hall on Dec. 12 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Co:Lab center, located at 7100 S. South Shore Dr. in Chicago.

“Financial literacy is critical on the path to the middle class, so I am thrilled to collaborate with Rep. Tarver to provide such valuable information for the community,” Buckner said. “For a lot of families just trying to make ends meet, there may be helpful financial tips that everyone can learn from this event.”

Buckner is hosting financial experts from the Treasurer’s Office and the IDFRP Division of Banking, who will explain how to create a household budget, as well as the basics of credit, savings plans, loans and other financial matters that families deal with regularly. The event is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be provided.

“I am committed to building a stronger Illinois for local families, and that includes working hard to bring real equity to the residents I represent,” Buckner said. “It is important to me to continue providing free services for our community and opportunities for anyone to grow. I strongly encourage anyone wanting to learn more about budgeting, improving their credit or learn more about finances to attend this free event.”
