AURORA, Ill. – State Rep. Barbara Hernandez, D-Aurora, is collecting donations of winter clothing items to benefit families who utilize two local food pantries in her district, the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry and the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry, during the month of December.
“I am so grateful that we have these amazing food pantries in our community helping families in need put food on their tables,” said Hernandez. “Unfortunately, families are often in need of other essential items in the winter, and many frequently find themselves without sufficient funds to afford warm clothing.”
Items needed include gently used or new hats, scarves, gloves, coats and sweatshirts. Residents can donate items Dec. 1 through Dec. 20 at two drop-off locations in Aurora:
- Hernandez’s district office, located at 540 W. Galena Blvd.
- Prisco Community Center, located at 140 W. Illinois Ave.
“No person should have to risk their health and well-being because they cannot afford the proper clothing and protection from harsh winter elements, so I am committed to do everything I can to ensure families in our community are safe and warm,” said Hernandez. “I hope that residents who are able to donate will consider giving clothing items for a family in need this holiday season.”
