Kifowit Encourages Local Shoppers to Participate in Small Business Saturday this Year

AURORA, Ill. – As the holiday shopping season officially kicks off this weekend, state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, is encouraging local residents to frequent locally owned small businesses as part of Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30.

“When you support locally-owned small businesses, you are helping provide our neighbors and community members with good-paying jobs,” said Kifowit. “It’s important to shop locally year-round, but it is especially beneficial during the holiday season when local businesses traditionally begin making a profit before the end of the year.”

Small Business Saturday was originally established in 2010 as an annual event to encourage holiday shoppers to shop at local, small businesses following Black Friday. According to the American Independent Business Alliance, every dollar spent at a small business can bring $3.50 into the local economy, which is another community-driven reason Kifowit is encouraging residents to shop local.

“Every year, I continue my fight to make it a priority for Illinois taxpayer dollars to go toward supporting Illinois and American-made products and businesses,” said Kifowit. “I will continue pushing for economic reforms that will help lift-up the middle class and create local jobs, but in the meantime, I would like to encourage holiday consumers to shop local and help our small businesses in the community.”
