ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – With the winter months and higher heating costs fast approaching, state Rep. Sam Yingling, D-Grayslake, is highlighting the Low Household Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Illinois Weatherization Assistance Program. These programs can help low-income families cut their energy costs and provide assistance with their utility bills.

“With families already struggling to get by, the increased heating costs during the winter months pose a significant challenge,” said Yingling. “LIHEAP and the Weatherization Assistance Program are both invaluable resources for families who have difficulties paying for their heating, and I highly recommend for everyone to check if they may qualify for either program.”

Both LIHEAP, which helps pay for energy bills, and the Illinois Weatherization Assistance Program, which looks for ways to increase energy efficiency in homes by providing home improvements like air sealing and attic insulation, are available to residents that meet a certain income threshold dependent on the number of people living in the household.

As state representative, Yingling has fought to lower utility bills and keep money in the pockets of working families. He regularly holds Utility Bill Clinics to help residents find and eliminate hidden fees that inflate their utility bills. Yingling has also introduced legislation to prohibit misleading advertising by utility companies that trick consumers into purchasing unnecessary services.

“Helping families keep their hard-earned dollars in their pockets is one of my top priorities,” said Yingling. “Programs such as LIHEAP and the Weatherization Assistance Programs are fantastic resources to help residents save while I work in Springfield to find even more ways to help middle-class families.”

Those who are interested in applying to either program are encouraged to contact the Community Action Partnership of Lake County by calling 847-249-4330.
