CHICAGO – State Rep. Justin Slaughter, D-Chicago, recently hosted local residents and community partners for a town hall on various state issues such as the state budget, infrastructure investment and other recently passed legislation.

“From the minimum wage increase and legalizing recreational cannabis to passing a balanced budget, we have made a lot of progress in moving Illinois forward and passing measures that benefit families across Illinois,” said Slaughter. “With all of the new legislation in Springfield this year, it’s important to keep residents informed and hear their feedback.”

Slaughter presented a comprehensive breakdown of the state budget as well as information on the state’s infrastructure investment plans. In addition, Slaughter discussed recently passed legislation that will make reproductive health care a fundamental right, and the creation of a Property Tax Relief Fund to help ease the burden of property taxes on hard working families. Slaughter also invited representatives from state agencies and local community partners to explain their role in providing critical services to the community.

“Hosting town hall meetings like this help me to better represent our community in Springfield and legislate more effectively,” said Slaughter. “I look forward to continuing to hear from community members on how to create a better future for our families and look forward to building a stronger Illinois together!”
