LYNWOOD, Ill. – In an ongoing effort to support mental health care in Illinois, state Rep. Thaddeus Jones, D-Calumet City, is holding an Alzheimer’s workshop with mental health experts from the South Holland Memory Care Community. The event is on Monday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Lynwood/Glenwood Public Library at 19901 Stoney Island Avenue in Lynwood.

“I’m committed to ensuring our seniors facing mental health issues get the support they need,” Jones said. “This workshop is just one of many steps I’m taking to improve the lives of people facing the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease. People should not be going through this problem without well-informed care, and hearing from experts like those at the Arden Courts of South Holland Memory Care Community will help ensure that care is available.”

Jones’ workshop will focus on identifying and addressing the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, and caring for loved ones who have it. However, professionals from the Arden Courts of South Holland Memory Care Community will also be able on hand to give general mental health advice. The event is free and open to anyone interested in learning about these issues.

Jones has been a strong advocate for improvements to mental health care services in Illinois. He backed a law requiring the Department of Human Services to provide greater access to mental health information and voted to expand mental health care access on college campuses. Jones also supported a new law requiring more extensive mental health preparation for police officers.

“I’m committed to building a stronger Illinois with better health care for everyone, and I’m making sure mental health care is not neglected,” Jones said. “Whether the disease is Alzheimer’s, depression or an anxiety disorder, people deserve more than simple support, they deserve understanding from those around them. My workshop will facilitate that.”
