COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – As the colder weather approaches, state Rep. Katie Stuart, D-Edwardsville, will be holding a warm clothing drive to collect gloves, scarves and hats to give to community members throughout the Metro East.

“Some people in the community do not have the resources to use for new clothing items each year to keep them warm in the winter months,” said Stuart. “As the weather cools down, I encourage residents to donate warm clothing items such as hats and scarves to give to those in need.”

Stuart is coordinating her warm clothing drive with American Legion Post 199 in Edwardsville. The donations will go to Making a Difference, an organization that focuses on helping low income and homeless people across the Metro East. During November and December, donations can be dropped off at Stuart’s office at 2105 Vandalia St., Unit #16 in Collinsville.

“I don’t want anyone in our community to face the brutally cold weather without a coat or any children to not be able to experience play time in the snow because they did not have access to proper winter clothing,” Stuart continued. “Many people enjoy the winter months and holiday seasons, but for some members of the community it can be a time of hardships. I want to help eliminate any distress and allow every resident to have a safe and warm holiday season.”
